Mint Records and Sled Island present: Kamikaze Nurse + Necking + guests (FREE SHOW)

FREE SHOW - No ticket or pass required to attend

Kamikaze Nurse

Kamikaze Nurse deftly layers noisy, distorted sound effects and feisty, authoritative vocals for an alternative rock sound with a punch. The band released its debut LP Bucky Fleur in 2019 and its sophomore album Stimuloso (which has been described as “well-crafted chaos”) will be released by Mint Records at the beginning of June, just in time for Sled Island.

Necking

The energetic post-punk outfit Necking boasts a captivating live set honed by a prolific performance schedule. The band’s lyrics, delivered with nonchalance, hold an undeniable sincerity. The 2019 LP Cut Your Teeth is fast and fun, with influences from inside and out of the punk realm.

Heaven For Real

Formerly a stalwart of Halifax’s indie scene, Mint Records band Heaven For Real pairs oddball pop and art-rock with a sophisticated ease. Recent EP Sweet Rose Green Winter Desk Top Tell This Side Autumn Of The Fighter Hot In A Cool Way combines jangling guitar, cooed falsetto and almost jazz-like instrumental playfulness. The group’s second full-length is due later this year — you might just get a sneak preview during Sled Island.

Kellarissa

The solo project of classically trained singer-songwriter Larissa Loyva, Kellarissa is a purveyor of a wide range of electronic styles, from disco to synthwave. This solo endeavor presents the opportunity for Loyva to further experiment sonically and creatively, as well as to deeply personalize her subject matter. Aside from releasing music in other groups such as P:ano, Fake Tears and The Choir Practice, Loyva has also been a touring member of How to Dress Well and Destroyer.

Cassia Hardy

Known best as the songwriter/lead performer behind Mint Records act Wares, Cassia Hardy will be performing as a solo act at Sled Island this year. Hardy is a fearsome performer whether with band or solo, and has a back catalogue of tunes ranging from quiet and acoustic to utterly rollicking. Hardy’s most recent album as Wares, Survival, received a glowing review from Pitchfork and was longlisted for the 2020 Polaris Prize.
